Eat What You Grow

by Alys Fowler

This year Alys Fowler came to Wildegoose to give a day of lectures and practical demos on Veg gardening. What she gave us was far from the conventional wisdom of RHS ‘How to..’ books, we were instead treated to an incredibly thought provoking, inspiring day that got us all thinking about how and why we garden as we do. This book ‘Eat What You Grow’ explains in Alys Fowler’s own engaging way, about alternative ways to garden modelled on Nature and how Nature works to feed itself. The concept of polyculture is brought to life and how to adopt this in any garden, including Alys’ own small scale suburban plot. There are many mind boggling revelations covered in this book as ecologists and scientists are rapidly increasing their understanding of the complex web of life both above and below ground and how this should be altering some of our gardening habits to embrace some exciting new ideas.
