Solidago rugosa ‘Loysder Crown’

Solidago or Aaron’s rod is the sort of plant that make many recoil in disgust and I have to admit I am one of them.

Solidago rugosa ‘Loysder Crown’ is not like other Aaron’s rod, it is for starters are a first class well behaved plant that has lasting interest in the garden.  It often starts to draw attention well before the flowers have emerged, the flowers buds are the most wonderful shade of acid green.  From these buds emerge flowers a lovely shade of pale lemon yellow (not the normal harsh yellow you expect from Solidago).  Leave the plants standing through autumn and winter and you will be rewarded with gorgeous seed heads.  The buds, flowers and seedbeds all make excellent subjects for cutting.
