Stipa tenuissima is a popular grass with garden designers and gardeners alike. It has tactile whisky plumes of flowers throughout summer, autumn and into Winter and is extremely beautiful. It isn’t always very long lived – we do loose the odd parent plant after a couple of years- but no matter as it often seeds itself about so you always have a replacement.
Stipas don’t like to be cut back so comb through them with your fingers in Winter to tidy out old growth and spent flower heads. Height 40-50cm. Need a sunny position with reasonable drainage.
