Succissa pratensis ‘Tall Form’

We originally acquired this plant as a unknown species of Scabious, over the years we have come to the conclusion that this is in fact a very tall form of our native Succissa pratensis or Devil’s Bit Scabious.

This is a plant that really comes into its own in late summer and autumn when a mass of bare, wiry stems are topped with rich blue pincushion like flowers.  Our form easily reaches 5ft.  The flowers are an excellent source of nectar and seeds seem to be adored by ur resident Goldfinches (whom I have to chase off so that I can get a little seed of the plants).

All round a fantastic plant.
